Why do I run?

Actually, I don't always like running.  Sometimes I feel like my body is in a big fight.  My heart, lungs or legs will compete to complain and beg me to stop.

So why do it then?

There are those days however,  when the running is easy and effortless.   Then I know why I run.  I run because I can.  And since I can I should do it.  (Maybe tomorrow I can't.)   I run because I  really like the way I feel after I have run.  My body feels great!  My legs and lungs feel better.  I love the challenge of doing something that takes some work to accomplish.   Just because something is hard doesn't mean that one shouldn't do it.   I love the adventure and sense of accomplishment on making it to the end.

My Top 10 Reasons:

  1. I have another reason to shop for shoes.
  2. I get to wear cool looking clothes.
  3. I can keep up with the kids (sort of)
  4. I get to hang out with a bunch of healthy looking people.
  5. Envy.  I can't stand watching runner's go by;  I have to participate.
  6. I tend to drink more water.
  7. I tend to eat better.
  8. I am more flexible.
  9. I get more endurance for regular life.
  10. I get great legs.

Surprise

As a slow runner I am used to being slow and staying slow.  But I read somewhere, that in order to get faster, one must run faster.  So . . . I tried it.  I still can't maintain the speed for very long, but what surprised me, was, it was fun.   Caveat:  I did have a cold and was on cold medicine, but I could still breathe and such, so I went for it.  Crank the treadmill up (within reason that is) and go.  It certainly couldn't hurt.

I used to be sure that I only had one speed.  Robert took me out to the track to prove to me I had more than one speed.   So now I have found out that I am capable of several speeds.  I have slow, slower still, slowest and just stop and walk.  But still, how exciting to have speeds.
