North Olympic Discovery Marathon

North Olympic Discovery Marathon, Washington - June 10, 2007
This was an interesting route.  It was chosen because of it's flatness, beauty  . . . and really had good previous rating by other runners!  All that was true.  I attended this race without Robert for a change; and went with 4 other women I call 'the Marathon Moms'.  We had a wonderful time and I would love to do it again soon.  Collectively we left 13 children home with 'dads'.  Traveling there was fantastically easy - we flew from Edmonton to Victoria and then took the ferry.  The ferry was right outside our hotel - we could walk there.  On top of that, our hotel room overlooked the race finish!!

The only bad part about this race was the weather. The coolness was perfect - the rain at the end was too much.

I started this race with the 'walkers' and as such was labeled as a walker. I didn't walk though and this is the first race that I ran well at the end. I credit that to caffiene power gel.  I also really liked the Hammer Gel and Heed drink they supplied.  (too bad it isn't in Canada)

I got up earlier than the others (who were not 'walkers)  and showed up for the first bus ready to drive us to the start line.  The bus was full but over all there were not too many walkers.   This was the first year they implemented this system so it was on trial.  I was starting 2 hours earlier than the rest to it would be interesting to see where I came in.  Certainly it was not the end.
