Portland Marathon

October 2005

This race is listed as a race for walkers.  I was excited, I found a race I would not be last in!    I knew my chances were good for having company here.  The 2 ladies I rode down the elevator with told me they were hoping to finish the race in 7 1/2 hours.   I almost felt speedy with a race goal of 5 1/2 hours.  Bizarre - I am rarely speedy in these circumstances.  But my placing says everything :  Bib 4658

They really like statistics here.

This was a fantastic race.  The only negative I had would be that I got stuck behind rows and rows of walkers who were across the whole road.   It took my a long time (it felt) to get to the start and then to get past the walkers into the group that was generally my speed.

After that iIt felt like the mile markers just flew by.  I remember relishing that since I knew they would later pass  waaay more slowly.
